Film: Jurassic Park:
The use of the sound/music is meant to connote adventure and exploration; it also connotes escapism into the lush vibrant island that the helicopter is flying towards/over and also transports the audience into the film itself to escape their lives. When we are brought into the scene we are immediately presented with the iconic Jurassic Park theme, which now later on we, as the audience, immediately connote with the brand and with the film. The soundtrack doesn't doesn't create tension instead it actually has the effect of decreasing tension carrying connotations of relaxation and serenity like you are being far away to a tropical paradise. The audience knows however that this is an excited calm before the storm as the soundtrack finishes on crescendo (like a storm) foreshadowing enigma. The sound and music creates a spectacular, and awestruck mood connoting that even the professors and doctors on the helicopter, experts in their respective fields, are out of depth and don't know what to make of what they are seeing.

Film: Back To The Future:
The use of the sound/music is used to connote excitement and preparation for the unknown as the audience don't know what is about to happen creating intrigue and enigma. Furthermore the music also connotes a magical, fantastical vibe to the scene making the audience understand that this is a fictional concept and therefore allows them to feel true immersion and escapism in the film. When the DeLorean with Einstein in it is sent into the past the magical Back To The Future jingle/sting which is so synonymous with the brand, plays for the first time. It is short and sharp and gives the audience a visceral pleasure (Rick Altman 1999 pleasures) making them wonder what has happened to the dog and the time machine, have they really travelled through time? When Doc and Marty are refilling the DeLorean with plutonium the music's tempo slows down and becomes more tense connoting the fragile balance of life and death as they deal with the highly dangerous material. Yes the sound and music changes tempo and pace consistently making use of major crescendos and stings like when the Libyan nationalists find them, or when Einstein goes through time in the DeLorean, mimicking how a human heart fluctuates with fast paced action. It also connotes the amount of emotions and thoughts going through both Doc and Marty's minds. It connotes that Doc the scientist and expert is having the same amazed visceral reaction as Marty who hasn't expected this at all showing that Doc had limited faith in his own creation this connotes him as a relatable character to the audience (ideal self/partner Carl Rogers 1980.)
TV: Sherlock:
Video Game: Doom Eternal:
- The purpose of the use of the sound/music in the extract.
The use of the sound/music is meant to connote a harsh, violent and high paced atmosphere. The tempo is fast paced similar to that of a heart beat on adrenaline this is purposeful because it connotes that the DOOM Slayer, the hero-like protagonist, is currently "high" on adrenaline. It also fits the platforming element of the game because there is a lot of running, jumping and climbing. The game starts off with a high tension and high energy as you are immediately thrown into combat. When we are brought into the scene we are immediately thrown into this tense high-action atmosphere as we are with all levels and missions in the DOOM Eternal game. It creates tension and establishes a hectic compressed mood as if you the player are constantly hemmed in and surrounded by antagonists. The volume and pace of the sound also surrounds you. Which is symbolic of the sheer volume of enemies that you fight and try to surround you. The music does change tempo however usually at the beginning to a new area the soundtrack becomes slower and changes more to vocals than instrument featuring choir vocals.
Radio Show: Archers:
The use of the sound/music is meant to connote a calm, homely atmosphere. This creates verisimilitude due to the fact that The Archers is fake reality so the homely atmosphere is created not real. As well as this particularly in the beginning with the Archers Main Theme it is meant to symbolise and establish their brand with anyone who hears it. At the beginning from the Archer's theme tune, which is also used for cutaways and breaks, is classical and also has quite a slow and mellow tempo. The Archer's jingle is instantly recognisable and is used at the beginning and end of shows and ad breaks so the audience knows what's. The use of the music establishes a calm but active mood connoting the slow but gradual movement of life, connoting for those who don't know what the Archers is about, it is about the lives of a mixture of retired and working country folk. The sound effects for walking are often done with sand, dirt and gravel all of which are materials found out in the countryside and therefore denotes the show set in a rural setting.
